Previous position as Beginning and Advanced instructor at UC Santa Barbara.
Teaching Philosophy: I am a voice teacher with a Masters in Music, Vocal Performance from UC Santa Barbara. I have been teaching voice for 14 years, both as an instructor at UCSB and in my private studio, teaching all styles and abilities. Anyone can sing. The modern era has emphasized virtuosity and individual talent rather than as a communal and spiritual expression. My focus as a teacher is to reacquaint my students to their voice and body, to build an intimate relationship with their voice so they can feel comfortable to freely express themselves. With influence from vocal pedagogy and science, clown, and feminist practice, I help students find their breath, support, range, timbres, colors, and voice.
1 hour lessons are $80-$140 sliding scale. No prior experience necessary :)
Experienced with difficulty matching pitch, limited vocal range, and various styles including R&B, jazz, mariachi, pop, bel canto, and musical theater.

Testimonials
“Mary Rose is an excellent teacher. She has a holistic approach to teaching. She also allows breathing exercises and expresses the importance of the posture when singing. I recommend her as a teacher as her approach is interesting and it is important for singers to know that you have to use all your voice and your body, it doesn’t matter what genre you are singing.” - Sydney M, NJ
“My daughters have had the privilege of taking voice lessons online from Mary Rose for the past 4-5 years (they were 4 and 6 at the time!) and she has been an amazing teacher for them both. Mary Rose has been kind, understanding, and professional in teaching them weekly from a young age and we have seen their interest in music continue to develop for the past several years. Both girls are now involved in the local community and school chorus groups, and Mary Rose has been supporting and developing their musical ability along the way with voice lessons and music theory instruction as well. I am very thankful we found her and hope that other students will get a chance to learn from her as well!” - Dan Tzuang, CA
